Historic Mediterranean Style in Montecito

There are historic threads that are common in all great gardens: homage to nature and the natural world, celebration of beauty and form, and a place of refuge for reflection and contemplation.  This is true of the Arequipa Garden. Inspired by Santa Barbara’s landscape architectural legacy and the region’s mild climate, the owners and architects planned and executed a series of gardens surrounding a new home that evokes the historic Mediterranean style and materials of the region, but with a flair for the exotic.  Set within a ten-acre site in Montecito, California, the garden’s essential character developed from the vestiges of the layout and plantings that remained from the original estate.  From this framework, Arequipa was created, enthusiastically embracing the glory of the region and the passion of discovery of the natural world.
