Val Verde
Challenged to reunite the two separate parcels of the original Val Verde estate that was divided in the 1940’s, our goal was to reestablish connections between the properties, erase 40 years of deferred maintenance, improve areas long neglected and recreate the timeless beauty of the landmark garden created by Wright Ludington and Lockwood de Forest in the 1920’s and 30’s.
The project focused on reconstructing major design elements that had fallen into disrepair or been removed from the original design. These included rejuvenating the grand terraces surrounding the main residence, reconstructing the Koi pond, restoring the reflecting pools on both sides of the main house, recreating the labyrinth garden and fountain, restoring the runnel fountain and planting at the Water Tower House plus replanting almost every corner of the 12 acre garden. In addition, a new tennis court, pavilion space and children’s play area were added. Thousands of feet of recreational paths were designed throughout the expanded garden.
