George Washington Smith + Lockwood de Forest jr.
This 1928 Norman style home was originally a collaboration between the architect George Washington Smith and landscape architect Lockwood de Forest Jr. The renovation of the garden was designed after careful review of archival drawings from de Forest’s collection. Though much of the original design was not executed, some of the ideas, such as terracing of the rear slope with sandstone walls, an orchard of fruit trees, and a long pathway through the garden were reinterpreted and incorporated into the final design.
